more than a belt change

A wet timing belt runs inside the engine in oil, keeping the crankshaft and camshafts in time. As it deteriorates, belt debris can restrict the oil pick-up and reduce lubrication. Replacement should address the belt drive, the correct oil and filter, and checks for contamination. The required parts and replacement interval depend on your engine and service history.

FORD 1.0 EcoBoost

Applicable wet timing belt variants

Applicable Ford 1.0 EcoBoost engines use a timing belt in oil and a separate oil-pump drive belt. Both drives, associated seals and the oil pick-up need to be considered when planning replacement.

STELLANTIS / PSA 1.2 PureTech EB2

Applicable Peugeot, Citroën, DS & Vauxhall models

Belt-driven Stellantis / PSA 1.2 PureTech EB2 engines need the correct timing kit and oil specification. Where belt material has degraded, inspection extends to the oil pick-up and affected lubrication components.

  • Assess the auxiliary belt and water-pump drive separately. Water pump and coolant replacement depend on the work required.

Not every PureTech engine has the same timing system. The vehicle identification and current repair procedure determine the final kit; there is no universal oil-pump-belt replacement item in this EB2 list.

HONDA 1.0 VTEC Turbo

Civic 1.0 petrol

Honda Civic 1.0 VTEC Turbo wet belt replacement includes the timing drive and its specified tensioner and pulley components. The separate oil-pump drive is included in the proposed comprehensive scope, subject to VIN confirmation.

What does a diagnostic check include?

Diagnostic testing identifies the cause of a fault before parts are replaced. A fault code is a starting point; it does not, on its own, prove which component has failed. Depending on the fault, checks may include live data, electrical measurements and testing the affected system.

What is replaced during a wet belt job?

The parts depend on the engine. Timing belts, tensioners, specified fasteners, seals, engine oil and the oil filter are common items. Some engines also have an oil-pump belt. The oil pick-up and related components need inspection where belt debris is present. Select your engine above for the proposed scope.

When is my wet belt due for replacement?

Use the current manufacturer schedule for your exact engine, build date and vehicle specification. Both age and mileage can matter. The registration or VIN and service history are needed to confirm the applicable schedule; one interval cannot cover every engine listed here.

Can I request an engine rebuild?

Yes. The first step is to assess the fault and engine condition. Compression or leak-down testing, oil-pressure checks and inspection may be needed before the extent of dismantling and repair can be quoted.
